Michael Studemund-Halévy (Hamadzija, Azerbaiján, 1948), docteur ès-lettres, es lingüista y autor de numerosos artículos y libros. Sus campos de investigación son las lenguas judeo-románicas, el judeoespañol, la diáspora de los judeoconversos, el arte sefardí y la epigrafía hebraica y judeoportuguesa.
Esta monografía pretende dar a conocer Don Isaac –por Don Isaac Abravanel (s. XIV-XV)–, obra del polígrafo búlgaro. Se trata de una obra de teatro que recrea las vicisitudes en torno a la expulsión de los judíos de la Península Ibérica en 1492, centrándose en la época de redacción del Edicto.
La obra alcanzó un éxito considerable durante el primer cuarto del siglo XX y fue traducida a varias lenguas, siendo además representada en distintos países.
Hoy en día se conservan únicamente las tres versiones que se aportan a esta monografía en una edición trilingüe: francés – español – hebreo.

Santo Bey de Semo (Ruse 1878 – Paris 1950) was a conceiver of ambitious schemes and unsolicited advisor to the world’s powerful men, Young Turk politico and Zionist, candidate for the position of Grand Vizier, peace activist and impractical visionary, street and bridge construction engineer, merchant and financier, self-taught linguistic genius and trained art historian. Also, he was a member of the Sefardi Community of Paris and Freemason in Bucharest and Paris, advisor to Emperor William II and his generals Hindenburg and Ludendorff, and occasional Nazi collaborator in Paris. He was an utopian fantasist, playwright and novelist, translator and touristic guide, founder of the stage-ready conspiracy movement Les Rayonnants, private tutor to the Prince of Wales and private secretary to the Ottoman sociologist and thinker Prince Mehmet Sabahaddin, vibrant explorateur and indefatigable conférencier, but also interested in the historical irrigation system in Mesopotamia and hotly debated plans for radical population transfers (particularly of Arabs from the designated Jewish areas), the headdress (bonnets) of French women, the Senussi clan in colonial Libya, the myths, secrets and eroticism of the Sultan’s harem, and the women they kept.
