Business is becoming more and more international and as a result a large number of Belgian business contracts are now concluded in English.

In this publication, the authors, all experienced business lawyers, have drafted and collected in one reference book, over 30 standard business contracts (including seven new ones), governed by Belgian law but drafted in English.

In this third revised and extended edition a special chapter on the relevance and possible dangers of boilerplate provisions has been added.

The contracts can all be validly signed and executed in English, without translation (with the exception of some due to language requirements).

Useful toolkit for the legal practitioner:
Each model is preceded by a short introduction, drawing the reader’s attention to the most salient provisions of Belgian law relevant to that particular contract. Also, in most templates, different options have been included and in the footnotes, the reader is given some guidance as to how those options can be completed.

Like all templates, further individualisation is required to adapt the model contracts to the specific circumstances of the situation and the parties. However, the draft contracts in this book will serve as a useful guideline to how a number of contracts would customarily be drafted in a Belgian business environment.
