This book was conceived through research conducted for the World Bank (Washington). The text describes the property transfer mechanisms, the protection of property rights through the Land Registry, and the mortgage legislation and foreclosure procedure of Albania, Bosnia- Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia. The study analysed both the legal systems and the organization and management of the Land Registries in an attempt to discover whether the institutional frameworks can provide secure transactions.
